MS Zenobia Wreck

The MS Zenobia is a 172-meter (564-foot) Swedish-built roll-on/roll-off ferry resting on its port side approximately 1.5 kilometers off Larnaca. The vessel developed a severe list associated with its ballast system during its maiden commercial voyage from Sweden to Syria and sank on June 7, 1980, without loss of life. Today, the wreck extends from approximately 16 to 42 meters (52–138 feet), allowing divers to explore its immense exterior, bridge, propellers, cargo decks, and surrounding marine habitat at different depth and certification levels. Its scale, intact structural features, sideways orientation, and remaining vehicle cargo make the Zenobia one of the Mediterranean’s most distinctive wreck-diving sites.

Notable Detail: Among the Zenobia’s submerged cargo were cartons of hen eggs, some of which reportedly remained intact underwater for decades.
