Amanda Fornal operates The Orange Explorer and is responsible for the personal information submitted through this site. The sections that follow describe the inquiries sent through its forms. Visits are counted without collecting anything personal, and the Dispatch collects an address of its own; each has its own section at the end.
Information collected
The Contact form collects the name, email address, and message that you choose to provide. The Suggest a Correction form collects the name, email address, Story identified, and suggested adjustment, including any supporting source you choose to provide. Please do not include sensitive personal information.
How information is used
Inquiry information is used to review the message, respond when appropriate, maintain any resulting correspondence, and protect the site from abuse. It is not used for marketing or sold.
Services involved
Submissions are processed and stored by Netlify Forms and delivered to a dedicated The Orange Explorer email inbox. Netlify filters submissions for spam.
Google reCAPTCHA provides an additional spam check and may process technical and interaction information under the Google Privacy Policy and Google Terms of Service. Netlify describes its handling of personal information in the Netlify Privacy Statement.
Retention
Inquiry information is kept only as long as reasonably necessary to handle the inquiry, maintain relevant correspondence, meet legal obligations, or address abuse. No fixed retention period applies.
Your information
To ask about, correct, or request deletion of information submitted with an inquiry, use the Contact form. Enough information may be needed to identify the relevant submission.
Analytics
Visits are counted by Plausible, which measures how many people reach which pages and nothing more. It sets no cookies, stores no personal information, and does not track anyone across sites or between visits, so no consent banner is needed and nothing here identifies you. Plausible describes what it does and does not collect in its Plausible Data Policy.
Dispatch
Subscribing to the Dispatch — The Orange Explorer's email newsletter — collects the email address you enter and nothing else. It is used only to send the Dispatch.
Subscriptions are held by Buttondown, the service that stores subscribers and sends the Dispatch. Buttondown is based in the United States, so a subscriber address is processed there rather than in the European Union; it states that it is fully GDPR compliant and supports the rights that come with that, including export and deletion on request, in its notes on GDPR and EU compliance. Buttondown describes its handling of personal information in the Buttondown Privacy Policy.
Subscribing takes two steps. Submitting the form sends one email asking you to confirm, and the address is added only when you click the link in that email. Without that confirmation no subscription exists and no Dispatch is sent, so an address entered by someone else never becomes a subscriber.
Every edition carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops the emails at any time. To ask about a subscription, obtain a copy of it, or have the record deleted, use the Contact form.
