Uepi

The island of Uepi lies on the northeastern edge of Marovo Lagoon, where sheltered lagoon reefs meet deep channels and the open Solomon Sea. This setting creates varied diving that includes coral gardens, steep walls, caverns, current-swept points, and dramatic drop-offs. Grey reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, rays, turtles, barracuda, and dense schools of reef fish are frequently encountered. The surrounding seascape combines barrier reefs, volcanic islands, rainforest, and customary marine tenure. Several dives begin directly beneath Uepi’s jetties, where shallow reefs descend toward Charapoana Passage and provide access to both protected reef habitats and deeper, current-influenced waters.

Fun Fact: Currents sweeping around the island’s point deliver plankton and nutrients to large sea fans, soft corals, sponges, schooling fish, and pelagic predators.
