Love is…: A Global Interview Project

Love is… is a global interview project examining how people define and value love. The archive comprises 612 in-person interviews with participants from more than 70 countries.

Participants were asked to define love, identify the type of love they value most, and explain why. Their responses document perspectives on friendship, love for animals, romantic love, familial love, and other forms of human connection.

Geographic Scope

Amanda Fornal conducted and filmed every interview face to face. Interviews took place across 26 countries and territories, 17 U.S. states, and Washington, D.C.

The participants were born in more than 75 countries and territories, extending the cultural and geographic scope of the archive beyond the interview locations.
