Apuseeq (Knud Rasmussen Glacier)

Apuseeq, also known as Knud Rasmussen Glacier, is a marine-terminating glacier in southeastern Greenland. It ends in a narrow fjord, where ice breaking from the glacier front forms icebergs. A 2019 drone survey documented a calving front more than 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) wide.

Historical aerial photographs from 1932–1933, Landsat imagery, and later drone and Sentinel surveys have been used to track changes at Apuseeq. The available record indicates relatively limited frontal change through 2011, although a major gap between 1933 and 1983 prevents a continuous chronology. More pronounced retreat was documented after 2011 and continued in observations from 2019–2020. These photographs record the glacier in 2015 during that period of retreat.

Another glacier in far northwestern Greenland, Equutissaatsut Sermiat, has also been called Knud Rasmussen Glacier. Using the name Apuseeq helps distinguish the southeastern glacier documented here.
